Self-employed? Do You Think Like an Entrepreneur?

One of the most important things for a self-employed person these days is to be able to think like an entrepreneur.

In order to BE a self-employed person it’s important that you start thinking like one. It’s all too easy to find yourself reverting to that nine-to-five mentality. The most important thing to remember is to make sure you complete each task you have set yourself through the day so that you can believe that you really are working towards your goal.

Sometimes a self-employed person has to make decisions about their business.  There are times when you are required to find solutions to problems, or maybe you come across a hurdle that is preventing your progress that day and you need to overcome it. Sometimes you just need time to think quietly so that the ideas can come to you. Don’t think that just because you’re not pounding away at your computer keyboard, you’re not working at your business.

Sometimes you need to be in a situation where it’s okay NOT to answer the phone every time it rings.  That’s what voicemail is for, and the same goes for email.  In a nine-to-five job you may have been required to leave the email program open all day and answer each one as it arrived. You will find in your own business that it’s okay to only check email several times a day instead of constantly being interrupted. It’s actually more productive than having to stop your thought process every time “you have mail.”

You’re going to have days where you feel you didn’t accomplish much.  Then again, you’ll have days where you’ll feel you can conquer the world and you’ll be amazed at how much you got done. Some days you may not finish many tasks, but you’ll make a decision on a problem that needed to be addressed.  Or, you will have learned a valuable lesson about yourself.

Don’t over-analyse your tasks and break them down too much. Yes, you will need to record and track results, but work out a program to do this to make it easy, then you can concentrate on doing the things that make you money instead of the worrying how much you earn each day. You must get used the fact that each day is different, so you will more likely find that you will earn more one day than another. As long as your business is moving forward, then you will know you’re on the right path. Remember that you may need to spend some time on marketing issues, and even though you may not earn as much money that day, you will benefit from it in the future.

Instead of worrying about whatever benefits you do or don’t have, think about the main benefit, which is that you only answer to yourself. Everything will benefit you more sooner or later. Your income from your business isn’t dependent on somebody else’s budget, it’s up to you and your goals and aspirations. You can take this as far as YOU want to go.

If you are working in the network marketing industry, then you will need to start to think like a marketer too. Thinking like a marketer and also like an entrepreneur is key. If you can successfully market, which will include both product and your opportunity then you are destined to be successful. Remember the funded proposal system that can help you to make money to help you in your marketing efforts. One thing most entrepreneurs do the4se days is work on multiple streams of income so that if one part of the business fails, you have so much more to ensure you still have an income.

If you are doing what you truly LOVE to do, then it’s more likely that you will have the desire to succeed. Get into the right mindset and start to think like an entrepreneur and an expert in your field. With the will, direction and desire to reach your goal, the only one holding you back is you.

Avoid Distractions When Working From Home

One of the most important things to remember when working from home is to avoid distractions. There are so many things around us that can be distracting so to get the necessary focus on the tasks you set yourself, it’s vital you avoid these distractions.

Sometimes you can have music in the background, which is fine as long as this doesn’t take your focus away from what is important. The worst kind of distraction is Television, especially if it’s in the same room as where you are working. The temptation to have the TV on and change channels is too much of a distraction to be healthy for your work focus. The radio could also be too much of a distraction because you could get distracted by a conversation that interests you so that you don’t finish your work task, but instead spend your time with your focus on something else. Also avoid the use of DVD movies because this is similar to TV in that your focus is towards the story and action of the movie rather than to your work. Music can be helpful to a lot of people because it provides a pleasant atmosphere and can enhance the work experience and encourage better work performance.

TV and radio are good when you are having a break from your work, but when working it’s essential you are focused on your task to completion or to where you can easily take a break and go back to complete the task.

So, what can you do when working at home to avoid these distractions? The best way is to set aside a room, or an area of a room where you can work without distraction. Working with a computer requires some time away from the screen, so plan your work tasks so you can complete your daily routine satisfactorily. You may require frequent breaks, but with correct planning and focus to the task at hand in an area where this is possible will benefit you and your business.

Should there be too many distractions, such as the things described above, your business could suffer and you could be losing money. Because there are so many potential distractions in the home environment, it’s important for you to treat your “work space” like you do an office. In the office there are no distractions like TV, Radio and the like, especially if the office is productive and busy.

In general, it’s not a good idea to have a television in your work area, but that doesn’t mean you can’t have one and listen to news, weather, or even music channels on cable or satellite. The most important thing is for you to focus on the work at hand and not the TV. If you find that you are getting interested in something that is playing on the television, then you should either record it for later, or take a break from work. If you take a break and the program is a long one, be aware that you could have to work later than planned to make sure you complete your tasks.

Your work needs to be done regardless of what is on television. A distraction like this can end up causing you quite a bit of money if you are not careful, and it will be your responsibility to make sure you can handle something playing in the background. If you can listen and do your work at the same time, then you are a step ahead of most people. Don’t get caught in the trap of distraction and lack of focus on your work. The sooner you get your task completed properly, the sooner you have the rest of the day to yourself.

Avoid distractions at all costs to ensure that you get the best from your day. Focus on the tasks you set yourself each day and complete the work on schedule. That way you will have more time to spend watching TV or a movie or having a coffee with friends. One hour of good time focus on your work is ten times more valuable than a day of distraction and interruption.

Do You Have Self Motivation And A Burning Desire To Succeed?

Two of the most important things you need when working at home is great self motivation and a burning desire to succeed. Without self motivation you will struggle to get things done and progress. Your desire, if strong enough, will help you to develop this self motivation and carry you forward.

The biggest issue about self motivation is that it can be overcome by other emotions. If your belief and desire is not strong enough, it is much easier to falter and lose your way. Build on your desire for success and work on your own personal development to keep you focused on the task at hand so you don’t lose what you have worked hard to establish initially. What is most important, therefore, is that you are able to keep whatever it is that keeps you going. You need to know how to hold on to that one thing that motivates you, so that no one and nothing can prevent you from moving forward.

What is Motivation?

Most people believe that to be motivated you need someone (or something) else to help you. Whether this be a friend or family member who encourage and push you to do more or a mentor or work supervisor who is motivating you to greater things. There could be a situation that may be unfortunate but inspires you to do more and be more in your business.

Any of these motivational sources can be really effective, but the problem is they are usually temporary. As soon as you are doing what is asked or expected of you the encouragement can ease off and you can lose this motivation to carry on. Bearing this in mind, you really need to develop something that is more permanent and effective long term. Working from home in your own business will require you to learn how to do away with any outside influences and achieve the desired level of motivation yourself.

Enemies of Self-Motivation

Do you often find yourself struggling with motivation? Then it’s likely that something must be wrong.

Do you have fears that are controlling you and preventing you from moving forward?

Are you very self critical and analytical and you have already succeeded in discouraging your own self?

Are you just lacking true belief in yourself?

Do you feel you lack confidence and you are quick to back out on opportunities that you find threatening?

Have you failed before and you feel afraid to make another mistake?

If any of these issues are familiar to you, then you need to get to grips with them and start getting yourself motivated.

Useful Self Motivation Techniques

One of the most important things, if not THE most important is that you set your goals straight. What is it that you want to achieve? It’s always important that you know what you want, so that you can go for it. Always follow one direction and focus, and that is moving towards your goal. If you lose your way, just pick yourself up again, reassess the situation, reset your goal and move on.

Find inspiration. These may be people and events from which you can gain good perspective from. Surrounding yourself with positive people will encourage and inspire you because they only talk about positive things. This will be a big positive influence to you and will help you a great deal. They will help you become the person that you ought to become.

Instead of focussing on the things that bring you down, focus on what you have done well and have achieved. It is discomforting to have to look at mistakes, failures and errors, so why should you focus on that?

Visualize success. When you are able to see yourself as successful and achieving your dream situation, it makes everything seem attainable. Do not limit yourself by saying “I can’t” because this sets your mind to a final end. In other words, it’s like the end of a sentence. Remember in your mind that there is no such word as “can’t”. Think of it this way – instead of saying “I can’t do this task today”, ask yourself this – “I have a lot to do today, how am I going to fit this task into my schedule today?” then you mind will act on the solution and not switch off.

Focus and allow yourself to unravel your dreams, if only just with your mind. Always consider that self motivation is key and the burning desire to succeed will help you to develop that motivation towards your ultimate goal. Nothing is impossible if you focus, even if it takes a little longer be persistent and stay with your plan.
